As I showed you in my last post, I updated and cleaned up my setup at home. But because I live in two cities, I have to be able to work on the go. In this article, I want to show you the equipment I have in my backpack all the time.
- Notebook (15-inch MacBook Pro (2016)): I live within the Apple ecosystem because of its minimalist aesthetic. Therefore my setup is cantered around a Mac. As I travel a lot and have to work in multiple different places, I love my MacBook Pro 15” (2016) because it is light. Although it is already a few years old it still works fine. I upgraded from a 13-inch MacBook Pro because it is much easier to have windows side by side and still be able to read the content. I often have to work in places where there is no external monitor available, so the extra space of display is convenient. The screen is just stunning and perfect when I edit my photos. My model was the first one that exchanged the F keys with the Touch Bar. I am not a huge fan of it but it sometimes gives some useful functionality. The one big input option that is better than anything available on Windows is the Trackpad. The multitouch gestures are so intuitive and useful.
- Smartphone (Apple iPhone 11 Pro (64GB)): My current smartphone is an iPhone 11 Pro. The cameras are just amazing and as I am only traveling with one lens for my Canon EOS 80D. There are sometimes Landscapes I cannot shoot with my 24 mm Lens. In this case, I love the panorama mode of the iPhone. It allows me to capture panoramas quickly without having to work hours in Photoshop to stitch multiple pictures together. The main disadvantage of photo stitching is, of course, the fact that you have to be very careful, that not a lot of objects move. Otherwise, it is possible to see the areas, where the iPhone stitched two photos. Luckily my current iPhone also has an Ultra-Wide camera.
- Over‑Ear Headphones (Beats Solo 2 Wireless): As I like to be out and about all the time, a good pair of headphones, is very useful. The time runs by much faster when listening to an entertaining podcast or enjoying some music. As it turns out, these over-ear headphones also are much better than a beanie in preventing your ears from getting cold. What I especially love about these headphones is that they can be used either via wireless or via cable.
- In-Ear Headphones (AirPods with Wireless Charging Case): Sometimes the big headset is not comfortable to wear and store therefore I also always have my AirPods with me. They are more discrete and better to use for sports and for taking with me without other people seeing them all the time. The wireless charging makes it cool that I just have to put it on the charging pad at my desk and they charge automatically.
- Powerbank (Hama): I always need a big powerbank if I am out on my own and using maps, music, etc. I use one with USB Type C. This way I can also charge my MacBook Pro with it and I can use the same charger as the MacBook.
- Keychain (AirTag): I am a forgetful person and I lose my stuff all the time and I was really happy when Apple revealed their tracking device for the keychain. I tried a few other solutions over the years but the problem is that they only work within the Bluetooth range of the device you are currently using. The apple AirTags can connect to any device coming close.
- Wallet (FREITAG SCHURICH Wallet) I recently lost my wallet and so I had to find a new one. I was looking for a product that has a low impact on the environment and the people that produce it. I finally decided on one from FREITAG. This company transforms truck tarps into nice-looking bags. As another bonus, they produce in Switzerland. Glasses
- Sunglasses (RayBan BLAZE) I bought these glasses on Black Friday in the San Francisco store during my California Road trip. So it is dear to my heart.
- Watch (Certina Sport Xtreme C-Sport): Like my glasses, this watch has also a high sentimental value. I got this from my godmother at my confirmation over 15 years ago.
- Mouth-Nose Mask (IPPON GEAR Mouth-Nose) In 2019 I would never have thought that I would ever live in a world where a thing like my favorite mouth nose mask is a thing. Well… now we are living in the apocalypse. Although there is a requirement to wear an FFP2 mask in Austria for most of the pandemic I love the design of this one and bought it for the other times of the year. I could not train Judo for months and this one was a little reminder
- Backpack (Patagonia Refugio Backpack 28L): I like Patagonia as a brand because of their activism (and also a little bit because of its attitude towards Wall street) But most of their backpacks are not the right for me. I love it when a rucksack has many small compartments. These allow me to keep my cables and other electronics separated from the clothes and also allows me to have pretty quick access to everything without having to turn over all the stuff if I am searching for anything.
- Cable bag (Cable bag Corriedale XS): Although I try to keep my cables to a minimum I still have to carry around three charging cables and one power adapter. To keep all this stuff together.
